Putnam, London 1937, a stated first UK edition of this great work on colonial Africa before it was issued a year later under the pseudonym "Isak Dinesen," 416 pages. The text block is Fine and withoout marks or writings. The hinges are firm and clean. The front pastedown has a few tiny specks on it. The covers and spine shaow some general wear, with a horizontal crease mark on rear cover, about 1" from bottom. Large rectangualr portions of the front and rear covers are uniformly darkened by expposure; moreso to the rear one. The gilt lettering on the spine is reasonably bright. There is a later printing dustjacket made of a unique, varient jacket design by Robin Darwin, a renowned British artist which depicts an African landscape with Kafen Bliven's Kenya home in the background. The jacket was issued with the Putman's name at the bottom of the spine.This book comes with a copy of a photo of the Blixen home. Overall, the book is Very Good and the dustjacket is Near Fine. An unusual and scarce item. ID#: 2474

A collection of stories of people who lived in the Kanksu of northern Idaho and the Lolo of of western Montana in the 1920s and 30s during the time the author was growing up - the homesteaders, the sourdoughs, the lumberjacks, the rogues, the rascals , the sweet people. Lacy's experiences there from a time long gone by, with his love of the wilderness, the mountains, the wildlife. He describes his experience with the Forest Service, stories of the Bitteroots and fishing in western Montana. The book has been illustrated by Thomas Hunter and includes a two page ORIGINAL watercolor sporting scene in full color by Hunter on the interior front endpapers. [N29443] Horace Cox, London 1910,.4to, 118 pages plus 2 pages of ads, profusely illustrated with B & W photographs and drawings. "With accounts of sport and travel in Nyasaland and Portuguese East Africa and also notes on the game animals and their distribution." Czech writes "Lyell recounts his experiences in the big game lands of Rhodesia with exciting detasil. All manner of game was collected, including elephant near Lake Chiuta, hippopotamus on the Shire River, rhinoceros on the Luangwa River, and lion. In addition, sable impala, kudu, eland, lechwe, waterbuck and other antelopes were also taken." The book has been rebound in green leather to match the original color. The camp scene photograph from the original cover has been inlaid and the gilt lettering on cover and spine closely match the original. There is a small previous owner signature on the half-title page otherwise the contents are tight and clean - a Fine copy of a very scarce title. ID#: 1522

This is set # 176 with an original Manuscript leaf entirely in the hand of Roosevelt, bound into Volume 1. Quarto. In four volumes, Volume I: xxvii, [3], 352; Volume II: vii, [3], 427; Volume III: ix, [3] 339; and Volume IV: [3], 363pp. plus five folding maps and 103 plates. Beautifully bound ¾ original green (unfaded) morocco leather over marbled boards; three raised bands with gilt lettering within the two compartments. Uncommon to this publication is the fact the spines are virtually unfaded. Top edges gilt, bright and unmarked, all others uncut. Elaborate green marbled endpapers, matching the cloth material on the covers. Internally, the set is Very Fine save for some minor and scattered foxing to a few preliminary and early pages, not affecting text, illustrations or text and the upper right corners of 2 of the preliminary pages of Volume 4 at one time had been folded, leaving crease marks, not affecting text. Externally the boards and spines are clean and without lean. Some minor archival reinforcement repair has been done to the outer front hinges of Volumes I and II. Overall, this is a Near Fine set. Scans of all features are available on request.
