This is set # 176 with an original Manuscript leaf entirely in the hand of Roosevelt, bound into Volume 1. Quarto. In four volumes, Volume I: xxvii, [3], 352; Volume II: vii, [3], 427; Volume III: ix, [3] 339; and Volume IV: [3], 363pp. plus five folding maps and 103 plates. Beautifully bound ¾ original green (unfaded) morocco leather over marbled boards; three raised bands with gilt lettering within the two compartments. Uncommon to this publication is the fact the spines are virtually unfaded. Top edges gilt, bright and unmarked, all others uncut. Elaborate green marbled endpapers, matching the cloth material on the covers. Internally, the set is Very Fine save for some minor and scattered foxing to a few preliminary and early pages, not affecting text, illustrations or text and the upper right corners of 2 of the preliminary pages of Volume 4 at one time had been folded, leaving crease marks, not affecting text. Externally the boards and spines are clean and without lean. Some minor archival reinforcement repair has been done to the outer front hinges of Volumes I and II. Overall, this is a Near Fine set.
