Account of the last and most important expedition of Carl Akeley, the one in which he gave his life while studying the great game herds of Tanganyika and the Congo, the Akeley-Eastman-Pomoroy Expedition for the African Hall of the American Museum of Natural History. No dust jacket. The green cover is bright and unfaded and gilt lettering on cover and spine are bright and intact. There is a black vignette of a gorilla on the cover and a giraffe on the spine. The flight in 1926 took Amundsen and Ellsworth across the North Pole from Spitsbergen to Alaska. Flags of the three countries involved, Norway, Italy and the U.S. wer dropped at the Pole. Green decorated cloth with black lettering and drawing on front cover. Pictorial endpapers. This is the story of one of the authors trips to Africa accompanied by her daughter. (Alice later became Alice Sheldon (aka science fiction writer James Tiptree Jr.) Bradley wrote several books on adventure and hunting in Africa. Many adventures with elephants, giraffes, etc. B&W plates accompanied by numerous sketches by Alice throughout.Externally, the book is tight, clean and Fine. Internally there is a small bookseller's sticker at the bottom of the pastedown. There is an inked gift inscription near the top of the pictorial endpaper and one small ink smudge on the lower portion. None interfere with the pictorial portions Overall a Very Good copy of a relatively scarce book.  ID#: 4532
