An account of the most interesting features presented by the Alps from several points of view, and an account that is based on the personal experiences of over forty years' wandering through almost every district of this great chain. In the early chapters they are looked on from the physical side, Then we come to man in the Alps. An attempt has been made to trace out the political or territorial history of the chief summits of the Alps. In later chapters man is considered in his relation to the principal passes across the Alps and as the explorer of the innermost recesses of the High or snowy Alps, this entailing notice of the guides through whose effort and loyalty the High Alps were finally conquored. There are impressions made at different seasons and finally the Alps hitherto looked on as a whole are considered in detail as forming twenty groups with divers characteristic features.The green cover with its gilt decorations and lettering as well as the highly decorated spine are bright. Contents are tight with a small amount of scattered foxing. There is a previous owner signature dated 1908. Overall a Very Good Plus copy.  ID#: 697
