Hunter Books
"T30471" Mifflin, Boston & N.Y. 1889, set #544 of a limited edition of 550 sets, original paper over cardboard covers with paper spine labels. These heavy volumes are folio size (approximately 13"" X 9 1/2""} One of the most comprehensive studies of the history of our country ever assembled. The books are filled with B &W illustrations, portraits and maps. The author was a prominent Boston writer, historian and librarian. All the books have been signed by Robert C. Winthrop who was a prominent Boston lawyer, philanthropist and and politician. He was president of the Massachusetts Historical Society and his political career led to to Congress where he was one-time Speaker of the House of Representatives..Several of the volumes were inscribed to him by the publisher. There is also a small bookplate on the front pastedown of each of the volumes by Edward Chenery Gale. He was a son-in-law of John S. Pillsbury, financier, philanthropist and one-time governor of Minnesota. The books show some cover wear but they are tight and the contents are clean without internal marks or blemishes.. The paper spine labels are generally intact with two of them partly torn off. Overall, considering the age of the books, they are in Very Good condition. They are so heavy that extra postage will be required.  ID#: 3004
