This is Stanley's reporting and anlysis of 2 major and successful British campaigns in East and West Africa as a special correspondent to the New Yor Herald. Black and White illustrations by Melton Prior (special artist in Ashantee of the illustrated London news). Decorative green linen covers with gilt lettering on spine. Dark brown claycote endpapers. 510pp + advertisement. 2 maps intact. An impressive 1882 calligraphy style inked presentation is on the free front endpaper The book is sound, tight and without further writing or marks. The head and tail of the spine have received professional attention to strengthen the extremities. Overall, this is a Very Good Plus example of a most uncommon Stanley work.  ID#: 1337
